On the 14th of October I formally started working at McDonald’s. On the 30th I formally resigned.
I need to say that even though I only worked there for four days, it has thought me two valuable lessons.
- I know how the machines making nuggets feel – disgusted, bored and in desperate need of a break,
- I know that a career in a fast-food industry is NOT my dream.
Now, it wasn’t like I didn’t like working there – although let’s be honest … it was McDonald’s. And the people there weren’t bad or anything – although they were extremely social and as a shy and quiet person I did feel out of place there. But honestly they were cool, always tried to include me in the conversation. Help out in work. And over all acted like human beings.
However, the job wasn’t the best in the world – as everything (except of course for Jack Norris), it also had flaws.
First of all, let’s talk about the main reasons you go to work. There are two.
It’s not like I didn’t get it there – but at the same time I didn’t.
Over two weeks there, I have worked 29 hours. And might I mention, that I was employed there full time. And for all that time they kept me on the same station. Now, I understand that maybe I’m not the most intelligent person in the world. But I’m pretty sure that dropping things into oil and frying them is not quantum physics. I was pretty much an expert after two hours. But how was I supposed to learn how to make the sandwiches (the thing I sucked at the most) if they never put me on that station.
In conclusion – experience : D –
Now, let’s talk MONEY. I think this is the real reason why anyone would work anywhere. Because without money you would die … or at least become homeless. But in McDonald’s because it was my first job they only offered me 8.50 per hour. Which is not even the minimum wage.
And as a person in desperation, I had to just suck it up and deal with it. Like every person that ever had problem with me.
But these two weren’t the only reasons why I quit. The distance was not the best either. It was 45 mins away with the public bus which always came late.
And of course the biggest reason of all – I GOT ANOTHER JOB. A BETTER JOB.
So, now that you’re probably all wandering – YES! I got the Spar job!
An soon I will tell you all about it. 🙂
But for now … let’s celebrate …
